"Khao Bao Yod Muang" Native rice variety of Trang, local wisdom capital and local development of Wang Khiri Sub-District, Huai Yot District,Trang Province

Abstract

                Bao Yod Muang is a native rice variety that has been developed into the geographical indication of Trang Province. This rice variety is planted a lot in Wang Khiri Sub-District, Huai Yot District and being expanded into many areas in Trang Province. This rice has a distinctive feature that the kernel of the rice will changes color from green to purple when it grows mature, which is like color of the tops of a light mango, so it is called “Bao Yod Muang”. The ears of rice is white and red in the same ears and the trunk is purple. It has high nutritional value, especially phenolic, which is high in antioxidants, which is supported by research related to Bao Yod Muang Rice in the nutritional value that can be developed into a healthy food. Therefore, Bao Yod Muang Rice is an important intellectual capital of Wang Khiri Sub-District. The Wang Khiri Farmers Community Enterprise Group realized the importance and conservation of traditional farming that inherited both of the wisdom of production and the wisdom of beliefs that make Wang Khiri Sub-District has a learning center for traditional farming with the knowledge of folk philosopher which build participation and networks from the government, private sector, educational institutions and various society groups both of inside and outside community to learn and develop until success can be seen from increased of farm area, increased of productivity and increased of rice value. Currently, Bao Yod Muang Rice is an OTOP product in Wang Khiri Sub-District, Huai Yot District, Trang Province, in the Knowledge Based OTOP (KBO) Promotion Project of the year 2020, in addition, the product is developed in collaboration with educational institutions such as “bao yod muang rice porridge” from the Institute of Food Research and Innovation of Prince of Songkla University and  “cereal bar” from Suan Dusit University, Education Center of Trang Province Branch.
