Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to develop the cognitive management model on perception and working memory for enhancing quality of life of older adults with hypertension disease. The sample was divided into 2 groups. The first group for quality of life study consisted of 382 older adults of the senior citizen club. Multi stage sampling technique was used for sample selection. The second group of the study was selected from the first group. They were 40 older adults whose quality of life scores were lower than twenty-fifth percentile and volunteered to be involed in the experiment. They were then randomly assigned into 2 groups, classified as an experimental group and a control group. Each group consisted of 20 older adults. The mixed method research was applied in this study. The research results were as follows: The total mean score and each dimension score of quality of life of 382 older adults with hypertension disease were high. The cognitive management model on perception and working memory was developed by applying psychological concepts of cognitive management, information processing process, and working memory process. The quality of life of older adults with hypertension disease of the experimental group after experiment and after the follow-up were significantly higher than before the experiment at the .01 level and higher than that of the control group at .01 level
