ความท้าทายการพัฒนาร่วมสมัยในประเทศไทย

บทคัดย่อ

     ประเทศไทยมีการเจริญเติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจที่ยั่งยืนในระหว่าง พ.ศ. 2503-2540  ดังนั้นธนาคารโลกจึงจัดให้ประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศรายได้ระดับปานกลางขั้นสูงใน พ.ศ. 2554 และปัจจุบันประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศอุตสาหกรรมใหม่ หลังจาก พ.ศ.2540ซึ่งเกิดวิกฤตทางการเงินในประเทศไทยและขยายตัวไปทั่วโลก อัตราการเจริญเติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจมีความผันผวนตลอดมา ในปัจจุบันอาจกล่าวได้ว่าความท้าทายในการพัฒนาประเทศไทยที่สำคัญที่ผู้บริหารการพัฒนาประเทศควรให้ความสนใจ ได้แก่ อัตราการเจริญเติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจที่ต่ำกว่าศักยภาพ ความสามารถในการแข่งขันอยู่ในระดับต่ำ ข้อจำกัดด้านอุปทานต่อการขยายตัวทางเศรษฐกิจอย่างยั่งยืน รายได้ชาวนาและเกษตรกรตกต่ำ สัดส่วนของหนี้ครัวเรือนต่อ GDP อยู่ในระดับสูง ความไม่เสมอภาคในระบบการคุ้มครองทางสังคมแก่ผู้สูงอายุ และการกระจายรายมีความเหลื่อมล้ำสูง

        Thailand’s economic growth was sustained during B.E. 2503-2540. As a result, the World Bank has placed Thailand as an Upper Middle Income Country since B.E. 2554. In addition, the country also has enjoyed a status of Newly Industrialised Country (NIC) at present. And yet, Thailand’s economic performance has experienced a considerable fluctuation since B.E.2540  in which a financial crisis was triggered in Thailand and spread to other parts of the world. For development administrators, major contemporary challenges to development in Thailand include the following: sub-potential economic growth rates, low level of international competitiveness, supply constraints to sustainable economic expansion, low income of rice farmers and agricultural households, extremely high household debt service ratios, horizontal inequality in social protection system for the aging population, and high disparity in the income distribution.
