Developing Competency of 1-3 Star-Rated Hotels Personnel in Krabi, Thailand

Abstract
This article aims to propose needs of competency development for hotel personnel based on ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professional (ACCSTP). The questionnaire was collected from 1-3 star hotel personnel in Krabi province. The training course for the hotel personnel was designed based on their real needs. The preliminary results revealed that the most needed competency were communicate effectively in English and Chinese, deliver service with hospitality mind and ability to use common business tools and technology respectively, which relevance to the ACCSTP. However, the training program for hospitality mind and technology usage were not getting full interested by the hotel personnel comparing to the communicative English program. It might be due to the nature of learning method for foreign language is too to be self-study. This issue be taken as main concern when designing the training program for the hotel personnel.
