Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the migration factors influencing the decision to move to and retire in Thailand, and also to examine the correlation between migration decision and retirement home purchasing decision among Australian seniors. This is a survey research and the Seven-Point Likert scale was adopted. The sample was divided into two groups, Australian seniors who are short-term and long-term residents in Thailand, a total of 822 samples. The descriptive statistics were implemented to describe the significance level of the push and pull factors. The logistic regression analysis was utilised to test the correlations between the variables and the migration decisions. The empirical finding demonstrated that migration factors do not influence the decision to move to and retire in Thailand among Australian seniors in general. However, the finding showed that pull factors of migration, include distinctive culture, natural attraction, living condition, distance, and familiarity, influence the decision to move to and retire in Thailand among Australian seniors who are long-term and also Australian seniors who are short-term residents in Thailand. In addition, the migration factors also affect the retirement village purchasing decisions among the Australian seniors.
