Abstract

This research aimed to survey financial and housing preparation for aging and study its relationship with personal factor among the pre-elderly population in Pak Panang, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Stratified random sampling was used to obtain a group of 380 pre-aging aged ranging from 50-59 years old. A three-part questionnaire was used to collect data. Part 1 elicits demographic information (5 items); part 2, information concerning their financial and housing preparation (18 items); and part 3, their opinions and suggestions about the matter (1 item). It was examined by 3 specialists for both structural and content accuracy which had IOC value of 0.882 and internal reliability, Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient at 0.948. Descriptive statistics and Chi-square was employed through a software package. Results indicated that 65.1 % of all the pre-aging group were female, 87.0 % were married, 71.6 % were elementary school graduates, 48.4 % were farmers, and 60.9% had average monthly income below 8,800 baht. In overall, their average financial and housing preparation was at moderate level (gif.latex?\bar{x}= 2.68, 2.73), respectively. Factors of educational background and average monthly income of these pre- elderly group showed a significant relationship with their housing preparation but not factors of gender and marital status. All four personal factors did not significantly relate to their financial preparation. Public authorities in charge should increase the level of readiness for the pre-elderly population by providing knowledge to enhance understanding about nursing homes, housing loan benefits from the government, land and housing law, money spending plan, property law and investing in various businesses to increase their incomes.
