Antonio Negri’s Political Method: Social Movement and Revolution of Multitude

Thoughts of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari have increasingly influenced contemporary ideas pertaining to social movements and social theory. The trilogy of Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri, Empire, Multitude and Commonwealth is a result of Deleuzian-Guattarian impact. All of Negri’s 21st century works, which are based on Deleuze and Guattari, have differed from the rest of Marxist theory. In this paper, I argue that politics of multitude, or so-called singularity politics as proposed by Hardt and Negri, is against identity politics and anarchist movement. What Negri has done is to introduce politics as conceptualized by Deleuze and Guattari in order to empower his existing Marxist-Leninist idea. The methodological move from Leninism to DeleuzianGuattarianism is not about denying but reviving Leninism in the new capitalist context, which is so-called biopolitical production.
