เพศพาณิชย์ข้ามพรมแดน: ประสบการณ์ของหญิงลาวในธุรกิจบริการทางเพศในพรมแดนไทย-ลาว

บทความนี้ต้องการแสดงให้เห็นความเชื่อมโยงระหว่างการค้าผู้หญิงข้ามชาติกับการค้าประเวณี โดยแสดงให้เห็นว่าวิธีการจัดหาผู้หญิงเพื่อป้อนอุตสาหกรรมทางเพศในพื้นที่ชายแดนไทย-ลาวมีรูปแบบที่แตกต่างจากรูปแบบของการค้ามนุษย์ที่มักจะเข้าใจกันโดยทั่วไป ทั้งในแง่ของผู้ชักนำและวิธีการชักนำให้ผู้หญิงเดินทางข้ามพรมแดนและก้าวสู่อาชีพค้าประเวณีในประเทศไทย จากเงื่อนไขดังกล่าวทำให้การพิจารณาว่าผู้หญิงลาวถูกบังคับให้ค้าประเวณีหรือสมัครใจค้าประเวณีกันแน่ กลายเป็นประเด็นโต้แย้งของหลายฝ่าย ผู้เขียนเสนอว่าผู้หญิงลาวส่วนใหญ่ไม่ได้สมัครใจขายบริการทางเพศในประเทศไทยตั้งแต่ต้น แต่ถูกบังคับจากเงื่อนไขที่สลับซับซ้อนหลายประการ ทำให้เชื่อว่าการขายบริการทางเพศในประเทศไทยเป็นทางเลือกเดียว หรือเป็นทางเลือกที่ดีที่สุดสำหรับการทำงานในประเทศไทย
