Abstract

This article studied metaphorical expressions and conceptual metaphors related to investment in stock exchange business discourse. The data were collected using a purposive sampling method to select 13 translated books about investment in the stock exchange. The results revealed that there were metaphors of investment in stock exchange business discourse which could be divided into two groups ranging from the highest to the lowest number of metaphoric expressions found as follows: 1) Investment [INVESTMENT IS COMPETITION], [INVESTMENT IS WAR] and [INVESTMENT IS JOURNEY]; and 2) Portfolio Investment which was exemplified by [PORTFOLIO INVESTMENT IS CREATURE]. This metaphorical expression could be divided into [PORTFOLIO INVESTMENT IS PLANT/PERENNIAL PLANT] [PORTFOLIO INVESTMENT IS PROLETARIAT]. These concepts reflect that the richness is a form of success in investor’s lives and fills them with sustainable happiness.
