Abstract

     The purpose of this research was to study the effects of art therapy on the depressed elderly in the elderly club, Somdejprapinklao Hospital, Bangkok. A sample size of the elderly aged over 60 years old was purposively selected from 121 members of the elderly club of Somdejprapinklao Hospital during August to October 2008. The Thai Geriatric Depression Scale (TGDS), Cronbach's alpha of 0.93 was used to collect the data. The test identified the participants who were depressed at the following level: from mid level to high level score were identified (19-30). These participants attended arts therapy program of 10 sessions. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Matched Pairs Signed-Ranks Test. It was found that the depression of the elderly was highly significantly reduced after attending the arts therapy program.
