A Study of the English Idiom Use Ability of the Fourth- year English Major Students, Literature Students, and Translation Students, Faculty of Humanities, Kasetsart University, Bangkhen

บทคัดย่อ

This research was conducted to find out the idiom use ability of the fourth year-English major students, literature students, and translation students to study both English and Thai essential idioms and their meanings, to encourage students to pay attention to idioms, and to be guidelines for instructors while they teach English in classroom. The result of the research indicated that only 11-15 percent of the fourth-year English major students, literature students, and translation students could choose the correct idioms. They had problems with filling in parts of speech, especially nouns and prepositions. Moreover, they were uncertain with the forms and meanings of the idioms.
