A Survey of Competency of Business Education Teacher in Secondary School

The objective of this study was to investigate business education teachers’ opinion of their teaching skills and their personalities and compared with the standard competency-based criterion for business education teacher. The sample of this study was 600 business education teachers sampling from all business education teachers in the secondary school level in Thailand. They were requested to answer questionnaires which were used as a tool for data gathering. Statistical analysis used were percentage, mean score, and standard deviation. The results revealed that majority of business education teachers received bachelor degree (83.24%), more than half majoring in business administration, and had teaching experience between 6 to 10 years. Business education teachers have acquired adequate content but lack of the teaching methodology. The teachers thought that students were given chance to participate in evaluating the teaching style and method of teaching and admitted that they paid less attention in their students about learning problems and personal problems. The finding showed that the business education teachers’ competency was lower than the standard competency based criterion.
