Abstract

The innovative work behavior is found in both manufacturing and service industries. In the digital transformation era, the innovative work behavior of IT helpdesk support staff is one of the crucial sources of competitive advantages of the firm. However, little research has been conducted to explore the issue. This article aims to investigate the dimensions of innovative work behavior of IT helpdesk support staff. These dimensions were the results of interviewing twelve key informants of various stakeholders: IT executives, IT helpdesk support staff, expertise scholars in innovative work behavior, and IT service clients from the IT helpdesk support. This study reveals that the innovative work behavior dimensions are opportunity exploration, idea generation, idea investigation, idea implementatipn, idea evaluation, idea promotion, idea championing, idea realization, idea intrapsychic coping, idea resistance, idea sharing, and idea compromise of the IT helpdesk support staff. Therefore, these dimensions could enhance organizations to develop practical human resource management aspects and serve the organization’s needs.
