The Popularity of the Northeastern People on the Pheu Thai Party : A Case Study of Khon Kaen

Abstract

This article aims to explain political phenomena of the popularity of the political party which the party-led coalition, The Pheu Thai party. The authors collected data from the period between October – December 2010 in order to survey the popularity of the Pheu Thai party among the northeastern people and to analyze the factors that relate to the popularity. Khon Kaen province was selected as a study area. For data analysis of 385 samples, quantitative research techniques and a statistical software packages. The results showed that the popularity of the Pheu Thai party among the northeastern people at the highest level, (approximately 63% ), the results from statistical analysis showed that the personal factors, including gender, age, marital status, education and occupation, were correlated with the popularity. The other involved factors, including, a personality factors in political democracy. the role of the party leadership in the village / community, the political candidates in the area, the establishment of voting bases in local areas and the influence of Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra in the Northeastern area, were associated with the popularity at the statistical significance of 0.05.
