Discrimination and Analysis of the Pragmatic Plane of “Compliment, Boast, Commend, Eulogize, Appreciate, Praise”

This paper takes six modern Chinese homomorphic evaluative synonymous verbs as the research object: "compliment, boast, commend, eulogize, appreciate, praise". In terms of the research scope, the author conducts corpus analysis based on the Corpus of Chinese Linguistics Research Center of Peking University (CCL) and the Chinese Corpus of Beijing Language and Culture University (BCC). Six evaluative synonymous verbs with analyzable feasibility are selected from the two corpora, and the study is carried out by systematically examining the pragmatic objects, pragmatic occasions, and pragmatic expressions on the pragmatic plane. According to the investigation and analysis, the results of three aspects are obtained. First, the pragmatic objects of the six can be used with human and non-human objects, and the usage phenomenon mostly occurs between superiors and inferiors. 2. Pragmatic occasions. Most of them can be used in public. 3. Pragmatic expression, the pragmatic expressions of the six of them can be expressed through speech and non-verbal, and the expressive meaning of "heart and mouth are consistent" appears in all six of them.
