บทคัดย่อ
นิติจุลชีววิทยาเป็นสาขาวิชาใหม่ที่ประกอบด้วยจุลชีววิทยาและนิติวิทยาศาสตร์ เป็นการสืบค้นหาแหล่งที่มาของจุลินทรย์บางชนิดหรอบางกลุ่มโดยการวิเคราะห์ ความแปรปรวนทางพันธุกรรมระหว่างจุลินทรย์สายพันธุ์ที่ใกล้ชิดกันการพิสูจน์หลักฐาน ทางจุลชีววิทยาจำเป็นต้องใช้กระบวนการและเทคโนโลยี อาทิ ที่เกิดเหตุและลูกโซ, การเก็บรักษาตัวอย่าง การเก็บตัวอย่าง การรักษาสภาพวัตถุพยาน จีโนมิกส์ และ การวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติ เป็นต้น ผลการวิคราะห์จะทำให้ทราบว่ามีการใช้จุลินทรีย์ ในการก่อการร้ายทางชีวภาพโดยเจตนาหรือการแพร่กระจายโดยบังเอิญของจุลินทรีย์ ที่น่าสะพรึงกลัวและมีนัยสำคัญทางสาธารณสุข โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง ทำให้พิสูจน์ ทราบแหล่งที่มาของจุลินทรีย์ การสอบสวนกรณีเหตุการณ์การจงใจกระจายสปอร์ของ เชื้อแอนแทรกซ์ผ่านทางระบบไปรษณีย์ที่สหรัฐอเมริกาเมื่อปีค.ศ.2001 (เหตุการณ์9/11) เป็นหนึ่งในการประยุกต์ใช้นิติจุลชีววิทยาที่ได้รับการยอมรับ
