Abstract

management practices of the community, (2) the community participation in solid waste management in Hat Yai Subdistrict, and (3) the evaluation of community participation in solid waste management in Hat Yai Subdistrict. This is a mixed-methods research. The target group, selected through purposive sampling, consisted of 42 individuals, including the mayor of the local administrative organization in Lang Suan District, members of the Hat Yai Subdistrict Administrative Organization Council, community leaders, and representatives of relevant agencies. The sample group consisted of 378 individuals.

The results revealed that Lang Suan District is divided into 12 subdistricts. Waste management is handled by local administrative organizations; however, problems still persist. The AIC (Appreciation, Influence, Control) technique was used to promote community participation in three stages: providing knowledge, joint project planning, and implementation. This led to 15 pilot projects in Hat Yai Subdistrict. Evaluation results indicated that: overall knowledge and understanding were at a high level (mean = 3.77); overall participation was at a high level (mean = 3.61); and overall satisfaction was also at a high level (mean = 3.67).

The researcher makes the following recommendations: Community participation should be encouraged in all stages of solid waste management, emphasizing continuous and diverse learning activities. Environmental policies should be prioritized, and the participatory process should be strengthened. A clear action plan should be developed, and necessary resources such as budget, equipment, personnel, and suitable waste disposal facilities should be appropriately allocated.
