Perspectives on The Security Environment under The National Strategy

Abstract
The National Strategy’s vision is “Thailand become a developed country with security, prosperity and sustainability in accordance with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” At present, the National Strategy has been implemented for 7 years. Thus, it is necessary to study and monitor changes in the security environment at all times in order to review, predict, or identify the impacts of threats that will cause damage to the nation and the well-being of the people. So that government agencies can set up effective action plans to manage threats. Changes in the security environment are interrelated and interconnected in many dimensions, the form of threats have changed into non-traditional threats, coupled with the development of science, technology, new concepts, theories, and innovations. The security environment has become more complex and has changed more rapidly. Threats from the development of innovations have become unexpected threats or disruptive threats.
Security environment analysis, regarding to the strategic management concept, can be divided into 2 components: internal factors and external factors. The study focuses on external factors’ effect to security environment to determine foreign threats. The results are to be considered for setting an action plan for country’s security competitiveness, responsible by the Ministry of Defense. Also, reviewing the threat assessment process and proposing appropriate time periods for being on-time and in line with the dynamics of changing security environments.
