The Development of Booklet to Enhance Global Competency of People in Chiang Rai Special Border Economic Zone in Preparation for ASEAN Community

Abstract

This research and development aimed to explore the needs of contents of training curriculum to enhance international competency of people in Chiang Rai special border economic zone in preparation for ASEAN Community, to design and develop the training curriculum to enhance international competency, and to evaluate the use of the training curriculum to enhance international competency. The instruments used in this research comprised five patterns: 1) semi-structured interviews for survey of content needs, 2) the training curriculum to enhance international competency of people in Chiang Rai special border economic zone in preparation for ASEAN Community, 3) an evaluation form of the quality of the training curriculum, 4) the pre-test and the post-test, and 5) the satisfaction evaluation form of the trainees. The sampling group of this research consisted of people, tourism business entrepreneurs in the community, tourists and stakeholders of both public and private sectors communicating with Chinese people in Chiang Rai Special Border Economic Zone, totally 45 people.

The research results were summarized as follows: 1) The needs of contents of training curriculum to enhance international competency  of people in Chiang Rai special border economic zone in preparation for ASEAN Community showed that the international competency, values, and strategies to solve the problems were needed. 2) The results of designing and developing the training curriculum to enhance international competency  of people in Chiang Rai special border economic zone in preparation for ASEAN Community found that the components in the training curriculum consisted of the introduction, philosophy, objectives, contents, training activities, learning media, and assessment and evaluation. 3) The results of the knowledge assessment of the international competency before and after training were found to be different at a significance level of 0.05. The average posttest scores were statistically higher than the average pretest scores. 4) The results of the satisfaction evaluation in the use of the training curriculum to enhance international competency of people in Chiang Rai special border economic zone in preparation for ASEAN Community, in the overall were at the high level.
