The Buddhist Tips of Life-Prolonging Development in Ayuvadhanakumaravathu Story

Abstract

     This article entitled “The Buddhist Tips of Life-Prolonging Development in Ayavadhanankumara Story” was a study on the background and the essences of Ayuvadhanakumaravathu to analyze for tips of Buddhist life-prolonging in Ayuvadhanakumara story. The study was documentary research. It was clearly seen that having worthy longevity related to be livelihood without heedlessness at present, without the attachment of the past, and without concerns for the future,  on the contrary,  to create benefits and values for one own life both past and present. Performing of those behaviors would lead to happiness as the aim of life.  Buddha-dharma emphasized the creation of the holistic health or a phenomena conducive to four aspects of life:  life-prolonging development aspects by the recitation of Phra Paritta, by giving offerings to others (dana), by observing the precepts, and by practicing Vipassana meditation emphasizing the development of the naturalness of life from within in terms of mind development until achieve in life-prolonging in relation with the external nature both physical and social aspects.  Buddhism, thus, concerned the importance of age, which in this context, a lot of Buddhist quotes appeared in Pali texts as the followings: “Yavuppapatti nimissati tatrapi sarati vayo” defined as “ Age is gradually decline every brink of eyes whether open or close.”; and “Kalo ghasati bhutani  sabbaneva sahattana.” defined as “Time consumes all living beings simultaneously within themselves.”   Moreover, “Yassa rataya vivasane ayu uppatram  siya.” defined as “ Days and nights fly by, gradually decline the age.”; and “Yatha varivaro puro gacham na parivattati avamayu manussanam gacham na parivattati.” defined as “ Though the rivers are full, the water cannot flow upward to the higher land, the same is all living beings’ age which cannot return to the childhood as before again.”
