Analysis of the Operated Spectrum of Each Cell Phone Providers After 1800 MHz Spectrum Auction

Abstract

     Nowadays, mobile systems are essential to the world economic growth. The world is moving into the fourth generation (4G) mobile systems which will entirely revolutionize the human lifestyle. In Thailand, cell phone providers are testing 4G long term evolution (LTE) over their 3G spectrum but it was not fully effective. Moreover, the 1800 MHz spectrum concession was expired since 2013. Hence, government has to plan seriously about 1800 MHz with 25 MHz bandwidth licenses auction. According to government notice, the spectrum will be derived into two licenses at 12.5 MHz. In this journal, we analyze the possibility of winning an auction between major cell phone providers in Thailand including AIS, DTAC, and TRUE. The factors used in analysis were number of users, on hand spectrum, and the amount of cash of each provider. The result showed that the winners of the auction would be AIS and TRUE.
