Jargon in Thai Commissioned Officers

Abstract

   Jargons are words used in a group of people who share common interest or profession. The aim of this study was to present the word formation of Jargon in Thai commissioned officer. In this research, data was elicited from Royal Thai Air Force Commissioned Officers of various ages and ranks, by questionnaires together with an oral interview. Another set of questionnaire was made to verify with another group of commissioned officers and laymen.
   The results revealed that jargons consisted of three forms included phrases, sentences and words. In term of word formation, jargon of Thai commissioned officers was formed in various ways such as compounding, borrowing, semantic change, coinage, abbreviation, clipping, sound variation and proper name; and its frequency was ranked respectively.
