Abstract

The objectives of this study were: 1) to study the mental health status and adjustment of students; 2) to investigate the factors related to the development of a student counseling system; and 3) to design an innovative counseling system for the university's students. The sample consisted of 2,405 undergraduate students. The research instrument was a questionnaire assessing mental health and student adjustment. The results showed that:

  1. Mental Health Status: Based on the screening criteria, students were found to exhibit psychiatric symptoms in the following areas: somatic symptoms: 65 students; anxiety and insomnia: 12 students; social dysfunction: 40 students; severe depression: 135 students.

  2. Student Adjustment: Overall, students showed a high level of adjustment across all areas. The highest average score was in social adjustment, followed by participation in activities, and then academic adjustment.

  3. Factors Influencing Counseling System Development: Key factors included budget, students’ personal issues, university policies, personnel, tools and data, and information technology.

  4. Innovative Counseling System: The outcome of this research was the development of the CRRU CARE application, which includes the Thai Happiness Index, stress assessment, mental health screening, appointment scheduling, and assessment history tracking. The overall satisfaction with the application was high (= 4.15, S.D. = 0.76). The highest-rated components were application usability (= 4.24, S.D. = 0.82) and application design (= 4.05, S.D. = 0.72).
