Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental study aimed to study the effectiveness of gel ice packs made from reused materials to reduce skin temperature and patient satisfaction after using among patients with undergone partial bony wisdom tooth removal. A sample group was selected using simple random sampling from a population of 60 patients aged 15 years and older who underwent wisdom tooth extraction surgery between October 2021 and January 2022. The sample was divided into two groups: an experimental group comprising 30 individuals and a control group consisting of another 30 individuals. The experimental group, gel cold packs made from reused materials were provided for application on the skin after wisdom tooth removal, while the control group received standard post-operative care in the form of ice packs. Skin temperature reduction was measured in both groups at 5 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes after applying the ice packs, using an infrared thermometer gun. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the One sample t-test, with a test value set at 20.
The results show that mean score for skin temperature both the experimental group and control group were significantly reducing skin temperature lowering 20degree Celsius from baseline.  In addition, after applying cold compress gel there were high participant overall satisfaction (mean score ± standard deviation 4.63 ± .45) Conclusion: This study indicates that cold gel pack was effective method for reducing skin temperature below 20 degree Celsius from baseline at 5, 30 and 60 minutes similar ice pack. A recommendation is put forward to conduct experimental studies focusing on the utilization of medical waste with the objective of waste reduction and long-term enhancement of economic value.
