Abstract
The purposes of this study were: 1) to compare the mean scores of a pretest and posttest mind mapping to improve students’ reading comprehension and 2) to study the students’ attitudes toward using mind mapping to improve students’ reading comprehension. The target group was 162 first-year nursing students for Faculty of Nursing who were studying English for health profession in the first semester of academic year 2022. The researchers collected the data by using a reading comprehension test, and the attitude measurement form. The data were analyzed statistically for mean and standard deviation.
The findings of this study were as follow: 1) after using mind mapping to improve student’s reading comprehension, the mean scores of a posttest showed 46.15 with standard deviation 6.76 that was higher than the mean scores of a pretest that showed 38.81 with standard deviation 5.80. And 2) the mean scores of students’ attitudes toward using mind mapping to improve students’ reading comprehension showed 4.16 with standard deviation 0.72 that was at high level. Based on the findings of the study, the collected data indicated that the students could understand how to use mind mapping that make them know how to analyze the context. This could support them to improve their reading comprehension. Moreover, they could use mind mapping to other subjects. Consequently, these students agreed with teaching mind mapping to other students.
