Community-Participatory Local Activities of Ban Mai Lao Yao Community, Wichet Nakorn Sub-district, Chae Hom District, Lampang Province, in Cultural Preservation and Inheritance through Creative Tourism

Abstract

          This research aimed to 1) analyze the local wisdom with participation of Ban Mai Lao Yao community, Wichet Nakorn Sub-district, Chae Hom District, Lampang Province 2) classify local wisdom through community-participatory activities of Ban Mai Lao Yao community, Wichet Nakorn Sub-district, Chae Hom District, Lampang Province, and 3) link the participatory local activities of Ban Mai Lao Yao community, Wichet Nakorn Sub-district, Chae Hom District, Lampang Province in cultural preservation and inheritance through creative tourism. The samples used in the research consisted of 35 local scholars, the elderly and community members, through specific random method. The research data was derived from observation in-depth interviews and group discussion by using participatory action research (PAR). 

          The research found that the local wisdom of members of Ban Mai Lam Yao community, Wichet Nakhon, Chaehom district, Lampang province was practiced for the purposes of their daily lives, problem solving, and including building morale and encouragement, becoming knowledge owned by the community members.This knowledge was classified as wisdom of art, wisdom of craft, wisdom of herbs, wisdom of traditional medicines, wisdom of food, wisdom of traditional dances, music and local performances, and participatory-community activities for the purposes of cultural preservation and inheritance through creative tourism. This creative tourism insisted of tour of temples and historic sites of the community, participation in the community's 12-month traditional calendar activities, and learning-base activities from scholars of the community.
