Debt Analysis and Related Factor to Debt Agriculture of Cooperative Member in the Northern of Thailand

Abstract

          This research aimed to study 1) the debt condition of agricultural cooperative member in the Northern region and 2) the relationship factors to cause of debt agricultural cooperative member in the Northern region. The study used secondary data from National Statistical and the Cooperative Auditing Department, the primary data from the questionnaire of 404 agricultural cooperative members in the Northern region. The data was analyzed by the descriptive statistics method such as frequency value, percentage value, mean value, standard deviation and inferential statistics relationship analysis by Chi-Square.

This research aimed to study 1) Members of agricultural cooperatives owe 10,001 to 50,000 baht or 24.0% owe more than 200,000 baht or 21.3%. The first reason is to borrow from cooperatives for use in agriculture. 2) The relationship factor to cause of debt agricultural cooperative members in the Northern region has shown the sixteen significance factors in statistics consist of five personal factors: gender, age, status, occupation, number of household members. The two economic factors: average household income per month, household expenses per month. The seven attitude factors: Money management planning (receive – pay) makes the debt reduction. Devotion to religion such as building an temple affecting the debt. If an income tends to increases, the current cost will increase. Installments products have more incentive to purchase products. Borrowing money makes shopping easier as needed or in an emergency. The higher the cost of living, the more expensive the debt. Political/ Government Policy Effect on debt formation. And the two factors for consumption necessity: Comfort in life, 4 basic needs. So, the government and relative organization should be emphasized in these factors. Because they will support the plans and policies to solve the agricultural household debt in proper target and the context of area. By providing knowledge of financial planning And attitudes to leverage the correct debt to members of agricultural cooperatives in the Northern.
