BEHAVIOR AND PERCEPTION OF THE MONKS ABOUT NON - SMOKING AREAS IN TEMPLES AND RELIGIOUS SITES IN CHIANG MAI MUNICIPALITY

Abstract

          The objectives of this research article were to study behavior and perception of the monks about the non - smoking areas in temples and religious sites in Chiang Mai municipality. And to research guideline solutions to the smoking problem areas in temples and religious sites. A sample of 313 administrative Sangha in Chiang Mai municipality were purposively selected. The researcher used the questionnaire. In - depth interview and data analysis with descriptive statistics and a descriptive analysis of the content together. Results revealed. 1) Behavior and Perception of the monks about the non - smoking areas in temples and religious sites in Chiang Mai municipality. Revealed have participated in activities 63.6%. And 44.1% of the monks participated in the role model and leader. Found that a person smokes or cigarette areas in temples and religious sites 52.7 %. And saw people who smoke in the temple were 44.4 % when a group of people came to smoke in the temple, 46.3 % warned. And perception about 65.2 % of the monks who smoke. And perception of a novice who has a 60.7% smoking. 42.5 % of those who entered the toilet were seen smoking in the temples. Perception 90.4 % of the non - smoking information areas in temples and religious sites on TV. Results revealed. 2) Guideline solutions to the smoking problem areas in temples and religious sites. Administrative Sangha and cooperation from network partners. Communication creates awareness and perception of tobacco hazards and promotes the role of developer monks. Suggestions from research more should be an awareness of the non - smoking areas in Temples and Religious sites.
