SUCCESS IN ORGANIC FARMING IN PA RAI SUBDISTRICT, MAE LAN DISTRICT, PATTANI PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research article were to study the methods of operation, processes, procedures and factors affecting the success of organic farming in Pa Rai Sub-district, Mae Lan District, Pattani Province. This research was qualitative study with interviewing 10 organic farmers from Pa Rai Sub-district, Mae Lan District, Pattani Province and 10 people from the involved sectors in the promotion of the organic agriculture group such as Mae Lan District Agricultural Extension Office, Pid Thong Lang Phra Foundation, Pattani Provincial Administrative Organization, and Community Development Office of Mae Lan selected by a specific method. The study found that the process of organic farming operations began with a study of organic farming standards then came to the meeting to find out the practice of organic farming consisted with the area by allowing group members to operate under the control of the group in accordance with the guidelines strictly. It defined and regularly inspected by the group committees to certify the member's produce according to organic agriculture guidelines. It was also found that the success of organic farming in Pa Rai Sub-district came from the leadership of the group committee, participation of directors, group members unity, group management, and water management . The effective organic farming was under the participation mechanism of farmers and local communities knowledge in the production and use of bio-fertilizers and receiving support from outside agencies. The feedback found that the use of modern technology in organic farming should be promoted to save production costs and increase product quality.
