Research Ethics Guidelines for Human Research for the Journal of Science Education and Science Studies (JSSE)
Posted on 2024-03-29For articles in the JSSE from Volume 8, Issue 1 (2025) onwards, authors must indicate the ethics approval for human research and provide the certificate number (if available) or explain the research procedures that demonstrate compliance with human research ethics. This includes obtaining informed consent from research participants using documents in accordance with ethical guidelines such as Respect for Persons, Beneficence, and Justice.
The editorial board has made changes to the submission guidelines for manuscripts related to human research as follows:
-
Cases where ethics approval is not required:
- Articles not intended for graduation or academic position applications, such as undergraduate class research. In this case, submit an ethics compliance certificate signed by the supervising professor and the program chair/head of department/dean/director.
- Independent research projects or theses (6 credits) for graduation applications. Submit an ethics compliance certificate signed by the supervising professor and the department head or program chair/dean/director.
-
Cases where ethics approval is required:
- Articles intended for academic position applications, both for teachers and professors.
-
Cases where the editorial board may consider waiving or not waiving the submission of ethics approval:
- Thesis research for graduation applications, where authors must explain their ethics training and/or research procedures demonstrating compliance with human research ethics. The editorial board will consider these on a case-by-case basis.
