Abstract

This research project has the objectives to 1) Study the context of change in Muang Phayao after the establishment of supermarkets and 2) Study the formation of new groups of people in Muang Phayao who are related to various types of supermarkets. This research will utilize quality-oriented research via extensive interviewing with 26 people of knowledgeable interest. This study has discovered that the development of Muang Phayao from 2550 BC has resulted in expansion of the population and an increase to new groups of people. Surroundings of supermarkets have converted into huge communities which expanded to the eastern and south parts of Muang Phayao. The mutually gradual development of Muang Phayao and establishment of three supermarkets from 2550 BC are related to the establishment of mew middle class groups who lived in Muang Phayao, by joining careers outside of agriculture more. Results from this study has pointed out that various supermarkets in the image of growing up in Muang Phayao are areas for reacting to the demands and preferences in consumerism for goods and services of the various new middle class groups, including agricultural entrepreneurs, sub-entrepreneurs in communities, private company employees, students and pupils, teachers and professors, government officers and state enterprise officials
