KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT IN TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT FOR THE TRAFFIC POLICE OFFICERS

Abstract
This research focuses on the traffic officers’ specialty in traffic law enforcement to create safety and to decrease road accidents in Thailand which has the second highest road traffic fatality rate in the world.
The purpose of this research is 1) to perceive the problems in the development of traffic police officer’s knowledge and 2) to study the approaches in order to overcome any difficulties that might happen during the process. The results show that the organization policy has no focus and the budget is insufficient. There is a lack of in-service training and sometimes joining the program might cause a dereliction of duty. There is no standard in recruitment and the program does not meet the needs of the organization. Moreover, plans and recommendations are raised to fulfill the gap, for instance, special training for traffic police officers specific on provincial police officers. The program should be well organized with necessary content and be held in a suitable period of time. The organization should provide strong policy and strategy that help in decreasing traffic accidents along with the effective training.
