Criminal Punishment and Punishing Forms in Lao Criminal Laws

Abstract

Criminal punishment and punishing forms are important measures of any states in handling with criminal issues. In the past, criminal punishment and punishing forms were to take revenge on behalf of victims. Later, they were developed to adjust how criminals behave and to heal damages from crimes. Thus, the criminal laws of any nations need to include principles related to purposes of punishment  as well as punishing patterns and forms. From the study of Lao Criminal Laws 2005, it showed that there was significant enactment of purposes of punishment, tupes of punishment, and punishing patterns and forms; moreover, it indicated agreement with modern criminological concepts and theories. The modern criminological concepts and theories emphasize on the adjustment and development of behavior, educating and training in order to decrease criminal repetition and stop criminal commission. When compared to purposes of punishment and punishing patterns and forms which are unique in each and different countries.
