The The Rehabilitation Process for Child and Youth in San Diego County Juvenile Court

Abstract

This article aims to present the process of juvenile rehabilitation at the San Diego Juvenile Court, problems and obstacles as well as guidelines for applying the juvenile rehabilitation of San Diego Juvenile Court to the Juvenile and Family Court in Thailand. This is qualitative research was collected through documentary research and in-depth interviews with executives and practitioners who work in juvenile rehabilitation, namely the County of San Diego Probation Department and The SAY San Diego with the results of the study as follows:


            The San Diego Juvenile Court has the only role of juvenile trials and the juvenile rehabilitation will be the role of the County of San Diego Probation Department and the organization that involved in juvenile rehabilitation in the San Diego area. The juvenile rehabilitation distributed roles and duties to agencies both within and outside the judicial process through agreements between various agencies involved in the San Diego area. As a result, there are many professionals participated with a juvenile rehabilitation plan. The guidelines that will be applied to the juvenile rehabilitation of the Juvenile and Family Court of Thailand, especially at the level of operation for effective juvenile rehabilitation, include the diversity of the multidisciplinary teams in a juvenile rehabilitation plan, classification of juvenile, a variety of rehabilitation programs and case management models.
