Music Composition “Latency Concerto” for Electronic Wind Instrument and Jazz Ensemble

Abstract
The research entitled “Music Composition ‘Latency Concerto’ for Electronic Wind Instrument and Jazz Ensemble” is a qualitative research in music composition which is aimed to compose music for electronic wind instruments and acoustic instruments.
The findings of Latency Concerto can be summarized as follows: the ideas of composing Latency Concerto came from the term Latency’s wide range of meanings, which include “delayed”, “intrinsic” and “latent”. The composer is interested in the method of combining electronic wind instruments (EWI) with a jazz ensemble in the form of concerto. The result was that both classical and jazz music were blended and hidden in the script. The piece consists of three sections, with a fast-slow-fast tempo. For Section I, the composer chose the theme and variations structure to create an intensity gradient of the music leading to cadenza for the soloist of the EWI to show his talent to the fullest extent. For Section II, a two-part AB Jazz form was adopted to increase the role of the acoustic instruments against the EWI which resulted in melodic harmonies. For Section III, the rondo's structure was used by repeating the same idea more than once to increase the intensity of jazz even more, with blues scale mixed with jazz’s signature swing as well as the use of a composing technique of the 20th century. All three sections featured the playing techniques of wind electronic instruments and a jazz ensemble in a variety of ways with full efficiency to connect jazz and classical music.
