A Study of The Concepts and Creative Process of The Contemporary Thai Dance Performance “Nattayasamphan Song Phaendin”

Abstract

This academic article aims to study the creative process of the contemporary dance performance "Dance Connection: Two Lands, One Culture" by applying fundamental Thai dance terminology to the performance design. The goal is to convey knowledge of Thai dance to dance students at the College of Music and Dance, Guangxi Normal University of Science and Technology, People's Republic of China, through hands-on learning and cultural exchange. The researcher studied relevant documents, concepts, and theories related to Thai dance, fundamental dance terminology, choreography, and the concepts of hands-on learning and cultural exchange. Appropriate fundamental dance terminology was then analyzed and selected for designing contemporary dance movements. Performance elements such as formations, costumes, and music were also designed to reflect the identity of Thai dance and the cultural relationship between Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Presented in a descriptive manner. The results show that the performance "Dance Connection: Two Lands, One Culture" effectively conveyed knowledge of Thai dance to Chinese students. Performers understood the basic principles of Thai dance movement and could perform movements in accordance with the music and performance style. Furthermore, the hands-on learning process promoted experiential learning and fostered cultural understanding between students from different cultures. It also reflects the role of Thai dance as a cultural medium that can concretely connect the relationship between Thailand and the People's Republic of China through performing arts.
