Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of Local Administrative Organizations in Thailand

Abstract

This research aimed to study the performance of disaster prevention and mitigation of local administrative organizations (LAOs) in Thailand and to analyze variables affecting the performance.  Questionnaires were used for collecting data from the personnel responsible for the disaster prevention and mitigation of 395 sampled LAOs. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. The results showed that the performance in disaster prevention and mitigation of the LAOs was at a moderate level. Tools, machine, vehicles, equipment and facilities, the activities/operations, and review and monitoring of the plan affected local people’s satisfaction significantly at 0.05 level. Secondly, the administrators and staff; the activities/operations, and the review and the monitoring of the plan affected knowledge and understanding of disaster of the local people significantly at 0.05 level. Thirdly, the activities/operations and the review and monitoring of the plan affected the accessibility of disaster prevention and mitigation of the LAOs significantly at 0.05 level.
