Abstract

PURPOSES: This article aimed to answer the questions “How can you teach Thai to foreigners since they don't know Thai language?” “What type of person is a good Thai language learner?” “How can I learn Thai quickly?” and “How long does it take me to learn Thai so well that I can read and write?” and to share my experience of teaching Thai to foreigners with the 5-step Thai sound analysis model that the author created. METHODS: Thai sound analysis consists of 5 steps, namely identification of the class of the consonant, specification if it is a live or dead syllabus, explanation as to why it is a live or dead syllabus, identification of the standard Thai pronunciation, and determination of comparative pronunciation. RESULTS: Learners who follow the tips in this article could read and write Thai quickly because they could practice pronunciation and check the correctness themselves. CONCLUSIONS: The 5 – step model could be applied to analyse Thai sound for foreigners in reading and writing Thai.
