PURPOSES: To investigate family functions, happiness, and self-esteem among students in a public university. METHODS: The samples were 398 college students from a public university. The stratified random sampling was utilized. The research instruments were Chulalongkorn Family Inventory, Happiness index of Thai People, and Self-esteem Inventory. Main data analysis techniques were correlation, and multiple regression analyses. RESULTS: GPA, family functions, happiness, and sufficiency of income were variables affecting self-esteem significantly, and accounting for 63.4 percent. CONCLUSIONS: Students’ self-esteem could be enhanced encouraging them to participate in activities that create joy. Pleasure with one's life, including convenience provision, needs for enjoyment and entertainment in various kinds.
