Raising awareness and mutual understanding on the rights and freedom on social media of youths and parents

บทคัดย่อ

PURPOSES: To examine knowledge and understanding of rights, freedom of use and communication on social media between youths and parents, to explore the behavior that reflects the violation of the rights to freedom of use and communication on social media of youth and their parents, and to present the pattern and method of using and communicating on social media between youth and their parents. METHODS: Data were collected from a sample of 420 youths and 420 parents and guardians across the country together with qualitative data collection by in-depth interviews with a sample of 15 youths, 15 parents and focus group with 10 youths, 10 parents, 10 scholars and media professionals. RESULTS: Youths and parents had knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and behaviors that reflected different violations and had different forms of communication methods that could share on common social media. THEORETICAL/POLICY IMPLICATIONS: Family relationships and binding reduce the age gap between youths and parents and media literacy as well as empathetic communication would enable the use of social media more effectively.
