An Enhancement to the Sufficiency Economy Village Model using Sufficiency Economy Philosophy: A Case Study of Koh Yoh, Mueang, Songkhla Province

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the problems in upgrading a village to a sufficiency economy village model, 2) investigate the practicing levels in applying the principles of sufficiency economy philosophy among the household leaders, 3) study the administrative levels in managing the sufficiency economy village model regarding to the sufficiency economy philosophy, and 4) study the guidelines for enhancing a village to a sufficient economy village model. The samples of this study included 331 household leaders answering the questionnaires, and 30 community leaders and community representatives giving an interview. The research instruments were a questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.884) and an in-depth interview (IOC = 0.835). The statistics used for analyzing data were frequency, percentage, means and standard deviation. The findings were as follows: 1) Most of the participants experienced with problems of rising living costs. 2) The majority of the household leaders took the sufficiency economy philosophy into practice in regard to the principle of adequacy. 3) There was the implementation of the administrative management in developing the sufficiency economy village model over the psychological and social aspects at the highest level. 4) The respondents also required supports from the government sectors in providing the comprehensible knowledge for people to apply as the guidelines for enhancing the village to become the model of sufficiency economy village.
