Investment Decision-Making in the Stock Market for Baby Boomer Generation: The Service Industry Officially Listed Companies on the Stock Exchange of Thailand

Abstract

This research is a descriptive research with the objectives to study the investment decision-making on the Stock Exchange and the personal factors of the baby boomer generation that influencing the investment decision: the service industry officially listed companies on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The population and sample were the baby boomers in Bangkok who were born between 1946-1964 in 5 districts, which are Wattana District, Phayathai District, Huay Kwang District, Chatuchak District and Rat Burana District without knowing the total of the population group by using the non-probability sampling method to select the sample group and using the quota sampling method to get the quota of 400 total samples. The research tools were a checklist questionnaire and a 5-level rating scale. While the quantitative data were analyzed by the descriptive statistic, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and one-way analysis of variance. The results of the research showed that the level of the opinion on the investment decision-making in the stock market for baby boomer generation: the service industry officially listed companies on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in overall of the investment decision level was at a high level. Once considering each aspect in descending order, it was found out that the investment decision levels were at high levels for all aspect as follows: securities aspect, stock market aspect, social and political aspect, economic aspect and the other uncertain aspect. The test compared the characteristics of the respondents which were different in terms of the gender, age, marital status, education level, average monthly income and occupation showed an average level about the investment decision-making in the Stock Exchange of Thailand with no difference at the statistical significance of 0.05.
