Problems and Guidelines for Social Welfare Development for the Elderly in Trang Province

Abstract

The purpose of this research aimed 1. to study the problem of social welfare for the elderly in Trang Province. And 2) To propose guidelines for social welfare development for the elderly in Trang Province. This study was a qualitative research. The researchers collected data through in-depth interview and used Purposive sampling for the key informants, 32 elderly who played a key role in 10 districts in Trang Province. The instrument used was a semi-structured interview and non-participant observation.  After that, the data was analyzed by content analysis and summarized the key points. To be able to accurately and completely answer the objectives of study. The result revealed that 1. there were many problems in providing social welfare for the elderly which can be classified into 2 main points as follows; 1) issues relating to the organization that acts on the provision of welfare for the elderly and 2) Issues relating to the social welfare needs of the elderly. Moreover, 2. The guidelines for social welfare development for the elderly in Trang Province consist of 1) Guidelines for the development of an integrated elderly care system 2) Guidelines for the development of groups and networks of the elderly 3) Guidelines for the development of information technology systems for the elderly and 4) Guidelines for the development of participation of other sectors.
