Four Ways of Kruba Civilization: Concept and Social Development Process in Lamphun Province

Abstract

This was qualitative research and the objectives were : 1) to study the concepts and practices of the Four Way of Khruba Civilization in Lamphun Province, 2) to study the social development process of the Four Way of Kruba Civilization of Lamphun’s Local Administration Organization, 3) To study the enrichment and self-improvement of monks according to the principles of the Four Way of Khruba Civilization in Lamphun Province and  4) to study the integration of the Four Way of Khruba Civilization principles with the education management in Lamphun provincial schools.  The research methodology was in-dept interview, focus group discussion and descriptive analysis. The researcher found that:  1. The concept and observance of Buddhist teachings was conveyed and followed until it became the civilization of Lanna through traditional methods such as strict meditation, vegetarian, propagation of Buddhism and education support to children of various tribe and ethnicity.  2. The process of social development according to the Four Way of Khruba Civilizations found that the method of dhamma teaching was applied to a comparative narrative that focused on the principles of unity, the Sangahavatthu principle, Brahmavihara principle and the example practices to build belief and faith of which eventually led to the participation of people in the community. 3. The enrichment and self-improvement of monks, it was found that good practice was the best way to create faith, to have wisdom of both secular and moral, to refine the mind, build learning space and to make use of for society. 4. The integration of the Four Way of Khruba Civilization principles with education management, it was found that there were curriculum related to Khruba, activities related to ethics and moral both in schools and within the community, the virtues and sacrifices of Khruba being taught to all classes. Knowledge from research was that the social development of Lamphun province with costs the goodness of the priest of Lanna  could be utilized as a way to strengthen society, to create good value, behave cultivating and creating a public consciousness for individuals and being a strategic framework for social development of Lamphun province going forward.
