Guidelines for Promoting Tourism By Using Movies and TV Series in Thailand

Abstract

Thailand is popular for filming movies from filmmaking teams, which can build both the reputation of tourist destination and income for circulation in the economy according to the government policy. This research aims to 1.Study the elements of film and TV series promotion in Thailand for tourism promotion. 2.Presenting guidelines for the promotion of film and TV series production in Thailand to promote tourism. This is a qualitative research. The researcher selected the key informants using in-depth interview method to collect data from 17 representatives of executives and operational levels of government and private agencies. The results showed most of the key informants commented that if Thailand has more good quality movies its can help develop the country to be successful in many ways. There are many Thai movies that can create
a brand for Thailand such as Ong Bak, which makes the world know the art of Thai boxing through actors including knowing Thai food and tourist attractions of Thailand. The TV series Buppesanniwat can create a tourism trend for Ayutthaya province. There is a trend among Thai people to dress in retro Thai costumes
a lot and can transform from a city that is just a transit city into a famous tourist destination and is highly recognized. The promotion of TV series and movies is therefore an important mechanism to promote tourism in order to create a trend that attracts tourists and wants to travel to Thailand. Suggestions, public relations for film production in Thailand via the Internet will be able to respond to the news exposure for entertainment media production companies as much as possible
