Abstract

The objectives of this study were to investigate the identity of master Pravej Kamut’s Sawduang style and to study the contextual factors for the identity of master Pravej Kamut’s Sawduang style. This study was conducted through qualitative research method. The results of the study revealed that the identity of master Pravej Kamut’s Sawduang Style consists of 1. Relationship between melody alteration of Sawduang and sound scales 2. Principles of using the technique of playing Sawduang. 3. The principle of altering the melody of Sawduang by master Pravej Kamut 4. The principle of using the dynamic of sound in the songs. the contextual factors for the identity of master Pravej Kamut’s Sawduang Style consists of 1. Family 2. Music study 3. Experience of playing and singing Thai songs 4. Occupational society 5. Personality 6. Musical instrument  7. Knowledge transfer. In addition, the researcher synthesized data between the identity of master Pravej Kamut's Sawduang Style and the contextual factors for the identity of master Pravej Kamut's Sawduang Style. The results of the synthesis can be classified and divided into key points as follows: 1. The identity of Sawduang verse by master Prawet Kumut 2. Master Pravej Kumut's identity as the leader of the band while playing Sawduang 3. The identity of master Pravej Kumut Sawduang playing technique
