Under the influence of American scholars, Thai studies is limited within Thai border. This paper suggests that Thai studies should also cover the space of relationships with neighboring groups of people beyond Thai border which had long been the focus of non-American scholars. This approach to Thai studies will be even more significant in the context of increasingly plural society where various groups are engaging in the identity politics. Cross-border mobility creates complexity of relationships, especially in relation to international migrant workers.
