Reviews of Concepts of Patron-Client Relations and the Importance of Political and Economic Brokerage in Village Studies

This article reviews the concepts of Patron-Client Relations and Political and Economic Brokerage in village Studies in Thailand, from the time of Bang Chan Study in 1949 to the present day. Though economic and political changes under capitalism have affected transformation in the rural area resulting in more economic-political movements in the rural area, patron-clients relations which reflect unequal economic-political power still remains important in contestation for power where the rural sector is an important battleground in modern politics.
