Abstract

“Precariat” is a key concept to understand the 21st century of the capitalist system which explains informal employments in the urban area. This research, however, demonstrate that agricultural labour could be pointed out by the precariat. The data was collected by methods of documentary research, in-depth interviews, and focus group. The field research compared Chachoengsao Province (Thailand) and Hà Nam (the Red River Delta, Vietnam). Based on mode of work and social wellbeing, the finding showed that agricultural workers have confronted statute of precariats because their employment was informal works, insecure career path, lack of social security and welfare, and unforeseeable future. These circumstances have made Thai and Vietnamese peasants as agricultural workers turning to precarious works and becoming the precariat as the new class of economic system.
