Abstract

This article aims to review the philosophical and anthropological concepts and theories of hope as a means of analyzing society and the human identity. Due to today's chaotic and conflicting global society, there is widespread debate, seeking and discussion of hope. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the controversies, debates, and argumentation in the recent studies. In this article, philosophical and anthropological studies are selected as examples to point out the similarities and differences in describing hope. It was found that the philosophical concept explains "hope" as a system of social values. The anthropological study examines the “hope” that exists in social and cultural contexts. However, these two disciplines share a similar point that human hope is an experience that affects emotion and the desire to move towards something better.
